Rotary International recognizes four Avenues of Service:
Community service - Activities Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. Lake City has had a number of service projects since our charter. Placement of park benches along the Riverwalk and the Library, participation in the community pancake breakfast, and donations to the Kiwanis toy drive are examples.
Club Service - Involves all of the activities for Rotarians to make their club function successfully. Lake City has an annual charter party; celebrating the day we became the Lake City Rotary Club. We use this event to honor our Rotarians who have made a difference in our community and club in the past year. We also have an annual holiday party as well as other recognition and social events.
Vocational Service - The opportunity each Rotarian has to their vocation (career or job) to other members of the club. We take time to get to know each other and educate ourselves on each other's careers so that we can learn more about our community. And, each year we send high school students to Camp Enterprise, a weekend retreat sponsored by Rotary to help students learn about business activities in a fun environment. Periodically, we visit businesses and industries as part of our regular club meeting so that we can have a tour and learn more about them.
International service - There are many programs and activities that Rotarians undertake to advance international understanding, goodwill, and peace. Rotary sponsors a foreign exchange program for students, and has many projects ongoing in many underserved communities. Lake City Rotary has participated by donating monies for wheelchairs to children in Thailand and clean water wells in Haiti. One of our members had the opportunity to go to Haiti and work on this project. It is our goal to sponsor foreign exchange students in the next few years.
